Integrated Services for Behavioral Health (ISBH) is a community-minded, forward-thinking behavioral health organization helping people along the road to health and well-being. We serve Southeastern and Central Ohio with a comprehensive array of behavioral health and other services – working with local partners to promote healthy people and strong communities. SSI/SSDI Outreach, Access and Recovery (SOAR) is a model that helps individuals experiencing homelessness, who have a serious mental illness, medical impairment, and/or a substance use disorder, apply for SSI or SSDI benefits. The SOAR Specialist will complete interviews with applicants to gather information to facilitate an SSI/SSDI application through an expedited process. This position is a member of a team dedicated to ending homelessness in south central Ohio, and works closely with clients, housing specialists, and case managers to increase permanent housing stability through available resources. This position will serve clients in an 5 county region that includes Ross, Pickaway, Clinton, Highland, and Fayette Counties in Ohio, and will report to a Ross County supervisor. Routine travel between counties is common, however overnight travel is not required.

This position requires someone who is organized and can prioritize tasks. The successful candidate will meet frequent deadlines and pay great attention to detail.

The pay range for this position is $19.00 to $22.26 per hour based on relevant experience.

Essential Functions:

  • Completes interviews with applicants to gather information to facilitate an SSI/SSDI application.
  • Gathers medical records and other information to support the application.
  • Prepares Medical Summary Reports according to Program guidelines
  • Accompanies program participants to virtual and in-person Social Security Administration Appointments.
  • Coordinates with medical doctors, psychiatrists, and other specialists to obtain evidence for the application.
  • Coordinates and provides housing case management as necessary.
  • Determines participant eligibility for SOAR services and benefits.
  • Carries out utilization review and quality assurance activities as directed.
  • Maintains necessary documentation, participates in program evaluation, attends team and program planning meetings, cross-systems training, and acquires knowledge of community resources.
  • Meets billing productivity requirements established by Integrated Services for Behavioral Health.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, certification as a peer specialist, or minimum three years of directly relevant experience, preferred.
  • Cursory knowledge of medical and psychiatric terminology and ability to communicate using same, preferred.
  • Experience with individuals experiencing homelessness, or personal lived experience of homelessness preferred.
  • Demonstrated high degree of cultural awareness.
  • Licensed and able to operate a motor vehicle with appropriate level of insurance coverage.
  • Able to effectively communicate through verbal/written expression.
  • Must be able to operate in an Internet-based, automated office environment.
  • Must obtain SOAR Ohio Certification within 6 months.
  • Must maintain SOAR Certification each year, and attend all training as required.
